Associate physical therapist in out-patient multi-disciplinary therapy & wellness center. Caseload primarily pelvic floor for women and men, spine & peripheral disorders, and persistent pain.

October 1998-Present: Sole Proprietor, Lizanne Pastore Physical Therapy, San Francisco & Petaluma, CA
Private practice in manual orthopedics emphasizing a somatic philosophy. Responsible for all aspects of the business—marketing, clinical, and financial (insurance reimbursement and fee-for-service models.) Vast experience in acute and chronic neurologic and orthopedic problems. Specialization in treatment of the pelvic floor in women and men since 2005. Caseload of 32-35 patients per week, 80% pelvic floor/women’s health. Close working relationships with many local practitioners. Active in the pelvic floor and women’s health community: participate in local journal club with MD’s, attend conferences, and am a frequent presenter at local/professional levels. Member of Mama’s Resource Network, a consortium of Bay Area healers specializing in the pre, peri, and post-partum mama.

1989-1998: St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center, San Francisco, CA
Level III PT for acute, rehab, SNF, and out-patient departments. Developed excellent communication and team-working skills for effective patient treatment and discharge planning. Lead therapist for SCI, Head Injury, CVA, Spine Pain and Rehab Center, and Post-Polio Programs. Developed standing protocol for rehabilitation of patients with Post-Polio Syndrome and lectured about this phenomenon. Co-leading PT for the development of the Ben Berman Outpatient Rehabilitation Center. California Children’s Services certified. 2015-Present: Board Member, National Association For Continence (NAFC)
Board member for respected organization. Education committee lead—developing education content for practitioners and consumers, including the “Be Strong” campaign, which offers downloadable free PowerPoint lectures for community outreach/education about pelvic health.

2012-2015: Advisory Board Member, National Association For Continence (NAFC)
Provide guidance and information to board members and general public, write web content and newsletter articles about pelvic floor health.

2009-Present: PT Consultant to San Francisco General Hospital Women’s Health Clinic
Trained lead NP and RN’s in techniques of assessing and treating pelvic floor. Developed handouts, educational materials & created 90-minute self-help video on pelvic pain, all distributed to patients. Participate in NP-led support groups for pelvic pain.


Overseas PT Experience
March 2010: Project Medishare Hospital, Port Au Prince, Haiti
Served one week as a volunteer PT post-quake primarily with adult medical-surgical-rehab patient population.

1997-2004: La Clinica-El Centro por La Medicina Tradicionale, Yelapa, Jalisco, Mexico
Worked 1 to 4-week stints each year as a somatic educator and PT in a rural, community-based clinic treating locals with a variety of medical and orthopedic problems utilizing primarily physical therapy, nutrition, hygiene, and somatic counseling skills. Taught classes in somatic education, sensory awareness, and experiential movement to visiting health-care professionals from around the world. Assisted lead clinician in research regarding the effects of globalization on the health of indigenous peoples. Worked closely with the women of this community in retrieving and documenting local healing methods and indigenous plant and herbal remedies.

April-June 1994: Obras Sociales de Hermano Pedro, Antigua, Guatemala
Volunteer pediatric PT. Developed guidelines for bedside therapy treatments and protocols to prevent bedsores and joint contractures, and instructed personnel to perform these activities.

January-April 1989: U.S. Medical Aid Foundation, Shanti-Mangalick Hospital, Agra, India
Volunteer PT working with local villagers of all ages and disabilities. Saw live cases of polio; taught classes on hygiene & sanitation; trained parents of children with disabilities in management strategies. Worked with local orthopedic surgeons to develop updated exercise programs for their patients. Volunteered at local Mother Theresa Orphanage in free time.

The NCCEC was responsible for creating curriculum and training methods for workshops, which taught methods for planning and implementing clinical education programs for PT and PTA students. Assisted teaching these skills in weekend workshops.


Professional Development
Have taken over 1200 hours of continuing education specific to physical therapy, plus hundreds of hours of course work in the areas of somatic therapy, sensory awareness, and experiential movement. Highlights: Completed yearlong Maitland training and certification in orthopedic manual therapy, NDT certified for adult hemiplegia, Uro-Gyn visceral mobilization.
